Storm Damage

Severe storms produce strong winds that can tear off shingles, blow debris onto your home and crack windows. Throw in some precipitation—especially heavy rain, hail storms, and heavy snow—and your roof can suffer further storm damage.

Spotting this damage before it manifests itself as severe structural and water damage is key. Roof damage can, however, be difficult for the untrained eye to spot. And spotting storm damage early is paramount to mitigating its detrimental impact on your home or facility. We can help you with all your hail damage, storm damage, and insurance claim needs.

How to Assess Roof Damage

Existing damage to your rooftop means there may already be some heavy rain that seeped through. With that in mind, check areas of your home that correspond with the damaged parts of your roof. You might find there are small water stains on your ceiling or in the corners of your drywall. The presence of water damage further reinforces that your home sustained some serious storm damage and needs expert attention quickly.

Hail damage, however, is harder to spot on roofs. This shows up as pockmarks or dents throughout roofing systems. Harder to spot still, storms can wear down protective outer coatings and granules. To spot any type of roof storm damage, you’ll need to know what you’re looking for.

If you have experienced a severe storm in your area and you’re concerned about the integrity of your roof, it’s best to have a roofing contractor like Hefferan Roofing come to take a look and provide a free estimate.

The priority following severe weather and damage is to make any necessary emergency repairs to get your home back to a safe position. Once this immediate problem is solved, Hefferan Roofing will help outline a full replacement or repair plan dependent upon the extent of damage and the overall age and condition of your roof.

The Insurance Claim Process

Don’t be intimidated by the thought of filing an insurance claim on storm damage. We’re here to help make the process simple. In the event of damages, we’ll work in tandem with your insurance company to get you the coverage that you are owed.

Step 1: Hefferan Roofing has a team of experienced professionals to help you with your claim. We work with all insurance companies to do our part in getting your home repairs completed.

Step 2: If you have storm damage to your home that is significant enough to file a claim your next step is to call your insurance company. Your insurance company will give you a claim number and assign an adjuster. That adjuster will contact you to schedule your inspection to assess the damage. This process can vary from insurance company to insurance company.

Step 3: If approved, the adjuster will create what is called a “Scope of Work” to use as the initial estimate. The insurance company determines the pricing and coverage. As with any insurance claim there may be extra items that were missed or unforeseen at the time of adjustment that is required to complete your project correctly, or items like second layers of shingles that were missed. Your insurance company allows for Supplements in this event. There is no need to get “Estimates” if you are comfortable with a contractor and want them to do the work. Since you have determined your deductible and the insurance company determines the payment amount, that just leaves you to select your contractor of choice.

Step 4: Finalizing your project details is the final step before completing the project. Hefferan Roofing will provide a written contract outlining all work to be completed and dollar amounts for that work. At that time we will discuss product options, warranty information, and specific project details. We are even able to complete this process electronically from start to finish if you prefer.
